In home newborn lifestyle sessions are a great alternative to a posed session for capturing your growing family. Many families with young siblings choose this option for ease and comfort. I come to your home between 1 to 12 weeks post birth to capture your new family member. We often use two rooms in your home - typically the master, the nursery or the living room. It is mostly based on lighting and space as well as where you are most comfortable. Natural areas of your home that you would commonly use.

For this family we used the master bedroom and living room area. It was a very laid back session - mama nursing her new little one while dad played with big brother. We had some fun and snuggles in the master as well as a quiet moment with mama on her own. These moments are truly beautiful and oh so fleeting. I’m honored to be able to capture this special time in their lives.

Natural | Ottawa Newborn Photographer

This sweet little one’s parents are drawn to natural and earthy colours and items. Their home decor reflects a rustic feel. When filling out the questionnaire, they requested natural props and earthy tones. I immediately thought of greenery and a branch nest with the wee little one wrapped up in the middle.

I love asking parents questions about how their sessions went or for a little info into their family life:

  1. Did you feel like your session captured your style?

Yes, it had a very earthy natural feel to the photographs.

  2. Do you have a favourite image? Which one and why?

Favourite image....I would say between these two (fourth and sixth image below)

  3. What do you love most about being a parent?

I love watching M. enjoy experiencing the world. She’s so inquisitive, curious, clever and is always so happy to have new experiences.

When booking a newborn session, your session is fully customized to your taste, suit your nursery, the colours on the walls or to complement the style of your home. I absolutely love how this session turned out.

Tranquility | Ottawa Lifestyle Newborn Photography

This was the sweetest little family. They booked a lifestyle session to document their family naturally and a newborn posed session to capture their brand new baby’s new-ness. The little toddler was so infatuated with her brother and loved giving him lots of snuggles and affection.

Newborn lifestyle sessions are a beautiful way to remember this fleeting moment in your life. Everyone snuggling in bed together reading a book. Mom sitting in a chair feeding the baby while a toddler crashes toy cars around together. Dad making some coffee while the noise of little children laughing fills the room.

They decided to sit together on the couch. Big sister sat on mom’s side caressing her brother’s little head, then moved over to sit with dad. Lifestyle sessions are pretty much go with the flow. Upstairs they sat on the bed together, also did some fun playing while mom fed the baby.

I just love how natural and casual this session turned out. The rooms we spent time in are rooms I typically ask to use – a master bedroom, living room and occasionally a kitchen or nursery.

More to Love | Ottawa Baby Photographer

This beautiful family came for a fall session the year before with just one little girl. Well, now they've welcomed another girl to their family. She was so quiet and calm and her big sister so curious and energetic. Dad left with the toddler for a little walk so we could get some quiet moments of just the brand new baby. When she joined us again, we got some beautiful family images. After their images were delivered, I asked mom some questions about how she felt their session went.

1. Name something special about your baby that you love?

How she melts when I rub her feet

2. What were you most nervous would happen? Did it?

That she would start screaming 24 hours after she was born and wouldn’t stop TIL she was 11 months (roughly) like my first did!!

3. Tell me about something that surprised you?

My entire birth experience with C (toddler) was so so much easier than with A (new baby). I was ready for a tough time pushing and in one push she was born, it was the most amazing thing.

4. Looking through your images what is your favourite one?

The one with all 3 of us looking down at Clara, sitting on the hospital bed. Such a special moment.

That's my favourite moment too. Little toddler hand caressing her sister, both parents looking down smiling just soaking in the joy.
